A NOTE FROM OUR CO-PRESIDENT

Benson Hill

Dear Temple B’nai Israel Family and Friends,

As we welcome the  secular New Year of 2026 and continue through the Jewish year 5786, I  find myself reflecting on the remarkable strength, resilience, and unity  of our congregation. Temple B'nai Israel has long been a beacon of  Jewish life in Northeast Mississippi, and together, we have built a  vibrant and supportive community rooted in shared values and traditions.

This past year has been one of challenges and growth. Through it all, we  have reaffirmed our commitment to being a resource and sanctuary for Jewish life-events, from joyous occasions to times of solemnity. As a  congregation, we have celebrated simchas, mourned losses, and marked the  milestones that connect us to our heritage and to one another. Let us  continue to support one another in these sacred moments and ensure that  no member of our community ever feels alone.
Our world has been deeply affected by the conflicts in Israel and the world. We stand with our brothers and sisters in Israel, offering our prayers, resources, and voices in support of peace and  security for the Jewish state. As we hold Israel in our hearts, let us also remember the power of action and advocacy in making a tangible difference. Our connection to Israel is a cornerstone of our identity,  and I encourage each of us to explore new ways to deepen that bond in the coming year.

Our congregation remains committed to strengthening the Jewish community of Northeast Mississippi. This includes fostering Jewish learning, engaging in acts of tikkun olam  (repairing the world), and expanding opportunities for connection and  collaboration with Oxford and other congregations. Whether through Shabbat services, educational programs, social events, or community outreach, Temple B'nai Israel is a place where every Jewish person can find belonging and purpose regardless of their level of observance.

In  the spirit of unity, let us continue to come together to face  challenges and celebrate successes. This is a time for all of us to  recommit to our shared mission: to be a source of inspiration, support, and strength for one another. Our congregation thrives because of you - your energy, your ideas, and your dedication to our collective  future.

As we embark on this new year, I invite you to reflect on how you can contribute to our community’s growth and vitality. Whether through volunteering, attending events, or simply  reaching out to a fellow member, each act of engagement strengthens the  fabric of our congregation.

Thank you for being an  integral part of Temple B'nai Israel. May this year bring blessings of health, peace, and fulfillment to you and your loved ones. Together, let us make 5786 / 2026 a year of unity, purpose, and renewal for our  community.

L’shalom,
Benson Hill
